See the Königsplatz (king’s square), one of the city’s historical landmarks

The Königsplatz is a beautiful and monumental square which is surrounded by temples of impressive architecture. The square was built in the 19th century at the instruction of Ludwig I. and finished by Leo von Klenze. The square was designed in the style of European Neo-Classicism. During the time of the third Reich the square was used for mass rallies of the Nazi Party. During summertime one can attend open air concerts and open air movie nights. Also, don’t miss out on this area if you are a museum lover, as the area around the square is home to Munich’s Kunstareal, the city’s gallery and museums quarter. Here you can find the Glyptothek, the museum of classical art and not too far away, the old, the new and the modern Pinakothek.
